About Me
From village in Spain to Dubai

¡Hola! sóc en Gerard. This is how I would introduce myself in Catalan, which is my native language.
My name is Gerard Avecilla, and I was raised in Sant Antoni de Vilamajor, a small town close to Barcelona, Spain, surrounded by countryside and mountains. It was a peaceful place with fresh air.
My father introduced me to cycling when I was very young. By the age of two, I was already riding my bike without training wheels. I quickly became very skilled because I loved it so much. At 7 years old, I started competing in bike trials and I won more than 50 awards. My greatest achievement was coming in 3rd place at the Andorra World Championship in 2005.
As a teenager, I developed a passion for the world of motors, particularly motorcycles, and cars. I obtained my first motorcycle by trading a downhill bike that I had. I started earning money by buying, fixing, and selling bikes and motorcycles in the second-hand market. I then decided to pursue a higher degree in Marketing as I believed that both my interests in mechanics and marketing could complement each other well. I had aspirations of importing high-end cars.
During my time working and studying, I was awarded a scholarship to study Digital Marketing at Tecnocampus in Mataró, Barcelona, which sparked my interest in business and entrepreneurship. I wanted to travel overseas and experience a new culture, and I applied for an abroad study program during my final year. Although I was accepted for an Erasmus exchange program in Germany, my plans were disrupted by the outbreak of the pandemic
My journey to the Middle East
Fueled by my ambition and a desire for both professional and personal growth, I was determined to not let my dream of living abroad fade. At the time, I was in my final year of my scholarship program and working as a Marketing Specialist at a bicycle shop called The Bike Village.
An opportunity presented itself for me to work in the Marketing Specialist role in the United Arab Emirates, and I quickly grabbed it without hesitation. On June 2021, I relocated to Dubai and finished my studies online.
Later on, I was fortunate enough to join Talabat, a pioneer in the online food ordering industry in the Middle East. Working at a fast-paced tech company enabled me to experience tremendous growth, thanks to the incredible colleagues and professionals I was surrounded by.
